Some browsers still do not properly display advanced enhancements. Page makers often use these images to alert visitors to the possibility that they are not seeing everything that built into the page. It is common practice to make them links to download sites, but this must be done manually unless you copy them and paste them directly to your page (and, sometimes that does not work).

Static Browser Images
Static browser images are not commonly used
today. It would sort of defeat the purpose.
