Psychological Testing on the Web

Paris Soulier (a.k.a., "Barbarian") has created a web page that should keep you occupied for quite some time!  Most students love to take psychological tests.  (Strangely, they don't seem to display quite the same enthusiasm for taking psychology tests.)  Barbarian's Online Test Page includes links to a variety of intelligence, personality and other general aptitude tests that you can take to learn more about yourself.  There are 143 tests available now (there were only 56 when I originally wrote this article), with more being added all the time.

The obligatory cautionary statement: Any psychological test that is readily available to the public, while entertaining and possibly informative, should not be used to make important decisions about yourself or others.  The most powerful, valid, and reliable psychological assessment devices are usually kept under the tight control of their creators or copyright holders.

That said, psychology students and non-students alike will surely enjoy exploring their psyche using these tests.  Educators will almost certainly find several tests that can be used to illustrate principles of psychological assessment in the classroom.

Most of the tests available via the Barbarian's Online Test Page allow you to take the tests online, but you will need a forms-capable browser.  (If you are using a recent version of Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer, you will have no difficulty.)  If your browser is not forms-capable, there are also some tests that can be downloaded and used offline.
